Another in a series of observations of life as I know it.
Suppose you were an idiot, and also suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself.
In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.

Just one day. That’s all (I think) I need. Not a day without sunshine, mind you, because that would pretty much define most of March and April thus far.
Here’s the thing. One morning, I’d like to wake up to brightness of sun as well as a news report that never once mentions the ex president and current con man under indictment for too many counts to imagine. One lousy 24 hour news cycle is all I am asking for. A day free of threats and goo, of sepsis and suppurating systemic toxicity. Is this too much to ask? Probably but I thought I’d mention it just the same. A girl can hope. It feels like each day piles on to the previous one, creating a mountain of discontent and ire. I am weary of constantly asking myself the same rhetorical question. Which of course is, how can the GOP think this lurid behavior, and his utter dearth of humanity, is acceptable—in any person? Why is this okay? Well, let’s take a step back. The Grand Old Party embraced Barry Goldwater’s treatise on extremism back in 1963. Maybe that’s when the infection first took hold. Even so, the Party has fielded some candidates of grit and distinction. John McCain for one. Give me a few weeks and I can probably find another. I don’t agree on policy of any kind with Liz Cheney, but I admire her pluck and heroism. Okay, that’s two. But what I am failing to fathom is an entire frigging party skating on the razor thin edge of treason. Specifically, giving aid and comfort to enemy states like Turkey, Hungary and Russia. Huh? And yet how can any sane democracy deny the people of Ukraine assistance? Asking for a friend. Speaker Johnson claims to be a bible thumping Christian, and yet his charity is scant. He is bowing and scraping at the altar of the Mar A Loco White House wherein foreign policy seems to be chugging along a parallel path to actual national policy agenda. The European nations are so rattled by this split personality form of government that NATO is moving offices out of the USA and closer to the European Union, out of abject fear and trembling that November may bring global disaster. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
And here’s another thing. Should the worst happen at the polls, god forbid, might I suggest moving your life savings out of the stock market? Methinks it will crash and burn if the orange messiah wins. 1929 Redux. Stuff your money in the mattress until further notice. Don’t claim that I didn’t warn you. The death knell of democracy seems to ring incessantly each and every day. The notion of another term from you know who gives me the willies.
And let me end (finally) on yet another dire note. Frightened Democrats are urging 69 year old Justice Sonia Sotomayor to step down now, as in tomorrow, so that Biden can seat another liberal on the Court. This is perhaps a bit of magical thinking, but I get it. Because should she retire after the election, and the worst transpires, we’ll be looking at a 7-2 split on a MAGA court for the ages. The unfortunate legacy of RBG. My solution is this. Why not ask Clarence to clear out his desk? Give him a nice gold watch, which he can pawn for a few dollars and an all expenses paid trip to the Poconos. Just a thought.
100% agree with this - i hate that my senior years are monopolized by this person!
